The Bike

Hi Folks,

There she is, Tess the Trek, all ready for the ride. A Madone 5.1, a present from Lois. Bought at Via Ciclante in Streetsville (Mississauga) Ontario. A great place to do bicycle business.

This is a wonderful bike with great components. I've done several rides since we arrived on our annual vacation at Bonita Bay just north of Naples, Florida. The ride is marvellous and the shifting is smooth. The bike club here is active with anywhere from four to forty or more members turning up for the 8:00 AM rides every day except Sunday.

Unfortunately, our cross-country numbers have dwindled; we are now at four but that number should hold. My next entry should include a picture of the group.

The maps have be purchased, studied in detail and a ride plan created. Departure date has been settled as 24 March from San Diego.

More later.

My First Blog

Hello Everyone,

Here is the first entry to tell you all about the planned ride across the USA. I am a member of the Bonita Bay Bicycle Club (BBBC). Lois and I spend a few weeks in Bonita Bay, near Naples Florida, each winter, and joined the club several years ago. Last fall Lee Chouinard, a past president of the club, suggested a group ride across the US. We have chosen the "Southern Tier" route published by the Adventure Cycling Association which will take us from San Diego, California to St Augustine, Florida. There are likely to be nine of us. Planned departure date from SD is 24 March 2010.

I hope to be able to provide updates of our progress with a few pictures every few days.

In the meantime, Merry Christmas to you all.

Dave
